Family Photo2015

I am a wife, a mama to one fabulous four-year old boy, a worship leader, a photographer and a follower of Jesus. I love anything creative or artsy, but you won’t find much for clever crafts or DIY projects here. I’ll leave that to the experts whose countless projects (actually, there’s currently 276) I’ve pinned on my DIY Pinterest board. Ain’t nobody got time for that! And while we try to eat healthy you also won’t find any gluten-free, paleo, vegan, or organic recipes here. Or on my Pinterest recipe boards for that matter.  What you will find are my musings on motherhood, ministry and missions, culture, and the world around us.

If you care to know more…

My husband and I are the worship pastors at a church in the Central Valley of California. It’s a huge blessing to be able to do something we’re passionate about and to do it together. We were married on the shore of Lake Superior in 2007 and moved to California from Minnesota in early 2010. On December 7th, 2011 we became a family of three when our adorable little boy, Ezra, was born. He is one amazing little creature and his presence in our lives has provided a totally different perspective on life.

About the Name

Joy is very unlike happiness. Happiness sways and shifts and bends with every wind that passes whereas true joy’s roots are deep and unshakeable despite circumstances. We who have experienced the love of Jesus have available to us an uncommon joy, that is greater than any circumstantial happiness we may find in the world around us.

I hope to be a vessel of this joy. Day in and day out. To find joy in the little things of life and to be incurably idealistic. The wide path is paved by cynics and jaded souls. In spite of the inevitable moments of disappointment in the journey, I choose the narrow path of idealism because I know that where there is life, there is hope.

In the words of Jon Foreman:

Far better to fail at building a magnificent world than to succeed in monochromatic survival.
